Don’t watch New Amsterdam with your kids

When New Amsterdam started airing on Netflix, my the 10-year-old joined me in watching and we enjoyed the show. At least season 1 and 2. For those who haven’t watched, it is a charming medical drama about an New York public hospital under the charge of an unconventional new director.

Dr Max Goodwin is really likeable and so are all the doctors on the show. And they tackle real life problems at a public hospital with soul. It has good lessons on marriage, love, sacrifice, hardwork, friendship, empathy, dangers of addiction etc.

There were sex scenes, but nothing you can’t forward without ruining an episode.

But then Season 3 began airing and first I had to chase him from the room before deciding I was done with the show. Too much agenda-ing and queerness did ruin a good show.

Here are some comments from viewers on Common Sense Media, who agreed with me that this is no show to watch with your tots:

“New Amsterdam started out really good, but the more it progressed the more ridiculously woke it became. Shame the writers feel the need to ruin a decent show with their political nonsense.”

“Not much in the way of raw sex but nothing that promotes traditional marriage either. They tackle, and take a left wing view of, every social issue imaginable: gay rights, transgender surgery for teenagers, drug addiction, immigration, you name it. At times it felt like an indoctrination into socialism rather than entertainment.””

“Season 1 & 2 the ratings were fantastic. 3 and 4 were dismal because the liberals and their woke agenda destroyed it.”

“This series is really good, I watched it with my 11 yr old daughter. The first few episodes were fine and had minimal language. As the seasons progressed they added gay characters, and lots of political talk.”
