Manspeak: Overcoming sexual temptation

Manspeak with Phillip Gitau

Men can fornicate and be adulterous undetected unless they’re caught in the very act. It’s also easy to imagine that we can sin and sincerely ask for forgiveness and forsake the sin and that would wipe the tats off.

Biologists also say the average man’s sex drive is more intense than the average woman’s.
The One who wired our bodies saw it necessary that way.

On the other hand, it’s physically possible to discover if a girl/woman has lost her virginity.
However once the woman loses her virginity, she joins the men’s club: subsequent sex is not physically detectable.
Hence the proverb, “This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, and says, “I have done no wrong.” Proverbs 30:20

But there’s a whole other world that only God and us can see — our thoughts, attitudes and motives.
Unless spoken out, this world remains hidden to even the closest of our earthly companions. Our Lord though, reads and feels everything that we say, wish and think in silence.
This is why His standards are not merely the physical and verbal.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭4:5‬ ‭”Therefore do not go on passing judgment…wait until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of human hearts; and then praise will come to each person from God.”

Jesus raised the bar from physical pants down to thoughts; the mind is where you catch sexual sin, whether fornication or adultery.

I don’t know what the Chief Biologist was thinking when He made it easy to catch a woman’s loss of virginity compared to a man’s or when He made the sex drive of a 15-year-old boy very high. Are we to judge Him or are we to believe He is all wise and draw wisdom from Him?

Because illicit sex is such a trap, it would have been safer for us men if sex outside of marriage left indelible tattoos on our palms. We’d be much more careful.

But the ability to hide a sin is dangerous. It easily renders you a hypocrite. It’s a zone where God majorly tests us. Will we obey Him when no one sees, when no one hears?
It won’t be on the 7 o’clock news, so we just do it. You munch, wipe your mouth and you’re ‘good’!
Only you’re never really good.
I believe God tests us men intensely by the normal, healthy desires He put in us.

The first time the phrase ‘Fear of God’ appears in the Bible is related to sexual deviance. Abraham lies that his gorgeous wife Sarah is his sister because he detected Abimelech’s kingdom had no fear of God and thought they’d kill him to get his wife.

The fear of God — the fear that my actions will separate me from God’s presence — is what we have. Ask Him to infuse that good fear in you.

“For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries . How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?” Hebrews 10:26‭-‬27‭, ‬29

Help to overcome sin available for the willing.
Help us LORD.
